Setting Performance Objectives

The ability to motivate and engage individuals by identifying and setting realistic but stretching performance objectives is perhaps one of the most crucial steps of management. Providing clarity, direction and purpose, to a team member drives stronger performance and creates trust and well-being.

There is a clear distinction between setting performance targets and objectives for the operation of the role that someone will undertake, and personal development objectives.

So, having identified behaviours, competencies and areas for improvement in the review process, it is important to capture and channel those into a personal development plan.

This should be related to, but separate from, the team member’s performance objectives. By doing so there is a mutual understanding of expectations, learn how objectives can be used to measure performance and how to measure these against role-related performance and personal development.

Each attendee will gain an understanding of how to effectively align and agree these expectations. We will discuss the most challenging situations that sometimes arise, and different approaches to adopt by considering the perspectives of the individual and team leader/manager.
